  Amateur 3D Design Competition

  powered by Invent 3D!

  In Collaboration with Tinkering Day event at Valletta Design Cluster

  Do you have a great idea but no 3D printer to bring it to life?

  We’re inviting amateur designers to create 3D-printable objects that bring practical solutions to everyday household challenges!  Choose one of the challenges below and submit your best design! Choose one of the three design challenges below and submit your best design.

  Challenge 1: Home product

  Design a convenience tool or space-saving hack for the home.  Focus on handy gadgets that improve efficiency and solves a minor but common problem. This can include cable or desk organisation, kitchen measuring or storage, wall mounted or collapsible home organisers for plants or objects

  Challenge 2: Gaming

  Design the ultimate accessory for your gaming needs.  Whether it is an add-on for your favourite controller, a custom dice tower or card holder for your tabletop games or even just a stand or storage solution for your gamer’s headset, the possibilities are endless.

  Challenge 3: Why doesn’t this Exist yet? Fix

  Design a simple but genius object that fixes an everyday frustration - whether it’s keeping doors from slamming, making keychains easier to find, a clip on device to hold your phone or wallet safe in your pocket, or improving how we carry grocery bags.

  Participants must submit a 3D model file (.STL) along with a short description of how their design makes life easier.  All designs must be optimized for FDM printing—no excessive overhangs, minimal supports, and a focus on easy, reliable printing.

  The best 5 designs will receive a 3D printed copy of their design thanks to Invent 3D.   Winning designs will be chosen based on creativity, practicality, and ease of printing.  

  Designs are to submitted to vdc@vca.gov.mt by Monday 5^th May at midnight.

  Join us on the 24th of April for an evening aimed at connecting members together - whether you're a fresh face at the Valletta Design Cluster, or a seasoned veteran member. Whether you're a student, maker or an experienced creative professional. Mingle over a glass of wine, play a fun networking game with us, and meet new like-minded designers to grow our sense community!

  We need your help to make Tinkering Day possible!   

  Volunteers are needed to assist on these days and times:

  Friday 9^th anytime from 9am-5pm for setting up for the event.

  Saturday 10^th anytime from 9am-5pm to help set up, help during the event for keeping organized, directing foot traffic, answering questions from the public, helping out during activities and workshops and taking down the event.

  Monday 12^th between 9am-2pm to finish dismantling the event, moving furniture and getting organized.

  Members: The hours will count toward your contractual 10 hours a year members contribution, of course! Every bit helps and will be greatly appreciated! 

  Non-members welcome too!

  Get ready to ignite your creativity at the Valletta Design Cluster's 2nd Annual Tinkering Days! Inspired by the global Maker Movement, this exciting event celebrates the ingenuity and passion of local inventors, makers, and hobbyists of all ages.

  Join us on Saturday, May 10th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Valletta Design Cluster.  You will find ongoing activities for all ages throughout the day, as well as workshops in crafts, painting, and baking and presentations on new technology. 
  

  Don't miss this chance to unleash your inner maker and become part of a thriving creative community!

  Call for Skilled Volunteers for the Repair Café Happening During Tinkering Day at Valletta Design Cluster

  Skilled volunteers need 10th May from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Valletta Design Cluster!

  We need skilled volunteers to be on hand to help restore items that the public signs up to bring in for repairs. Whether it’s a chipped ceramic plate, a wooden chair with a wobble, or a torn fabric cushion, electronic items, we’ll do our best to breathe new life into them. Please note that we will only accept small to medium-sized items, with the largest being chairs or coffee tables. If you have the skills and know how to conduct repairs and if you are passionate about fixing, reusing and repurposing items to give them a longer life so they don't end up as landfill, then please volunteer your services and expertise.

  Filmmaker and anthropologist Adrian Camilleri will offer insights into his body of work to date and engage in a discussion about his future projects. His work weaves together anthropology and art, aiming to highlight the richness of cultures and human experiences through an interplay of sound and imagery. He will discuss various methods of representation, focusing on how sound and image are used to interpret and understand the world around us.
